My Journey to Beautycounter

I have yet to share my newest endeavor and it’s something that I’m really excited about so I thought that I’d finally take the time to talk about it.

A few weeks ago, I started working with Beautycounter. If you haven’t heard of it before, Beautycounter is a clean beauty company. What does this mean? They are a Certified B Corporation and EWG Verified. Their motto is to formulate, advocate, and educate. It is their collective mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone. Their transparency is something I admire and can wholeheartedly get behind.

Growing up I struggled with my skin. Painful acne, dull, oily, dry, sensitive, and uneven skin … you name it. I especially struggled as a teenager in high school with bad acne everywhere; my face, my neck, my chest, and even my back and shoulders. I was so embarrassed of it for the longest time and I had no idea how to properly treat it. I hated seeing pictures of myself because of the way my skin looked. I almost never wore tank tops and I wasn’t comfortable wearing swimsuits in the summertime because I wanted to cover up my skin as much as possible. As I got older, I grew out of the acne fortunately but, have since struggled with oily and dull skin. I’m sure many can relate to my story because of their/your own skin struggles.

When I became pregnant with Elena, I made the decision to clean up the products I used and started transitioning to cleaner and safer products all around (food, supplements, cleaning products, appliances, etc). It has been a process but it was the best decision I made not only for myself, but my growing family as well. We’re doing the best we can as it makes sense to us. The changes are small right now but in the long run, it will make a huge impact.  I wish I would have realized earlier on the importance of taking care of my skin but now I’m making an effort to really be thoughtful about how I care for my body as a whole.

Long story short, Beautycounter is my next step in this journey. This company is for everyone. They do skincare, makeup, a men’s line, and even baby products. I came across the company almost two years ago and am now deciding that this is the right time to make this leap.

Beautycounter has a “Never List” of 1800+ ingredients that they will never use in their products. The European Union has banned or restricted 1400 ingredients from personal care products. As for the United States… only 30. ONLY THIRTY. Unfortunately, many popular companies use harmful ingredients and you deserve to know what you’re putting on your skin and into your body. Also, the United States has not passed a major federal law governing the cosmetics industry since 1938. Um, that’s over 80 years. A lot has changed in that amount of time. Beautycounter believes that changing the beauty industry is more than just creating safer products but also advocating for stricter guidelines and regulations in hopes of shifting the personal care industry away from using harmful and questionable ingredients.

My goal is not to bug anyone or make anyone feel pressured into using or joining Beautycounter.  I understand that this may not be for everyone and some people may even question what I’m doing and that’s okay. But, I’m excited about building a business that works for my family and me with where I’m at in life right now. I also want to be a good role model for Elena so that she knows the importance of taking care of her body as she grows up. Being a part of this also means being a part of something bigger that is making a significant social impact for future generations. I plan on sharing it as I use the products and what works for me. I only hope that I can inspire someone to believe in this business like I do.

I’m passionate about learning what’s safe and clean for our bodies because ultimately it all affects our health; physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
